Paving way for faster disposal of commercial disputes, the Lok Sabha today passed Bill empowering government to set up commercial courts exclusively to expedite business disputes, especially those arising among the investors in the FDI sector. The Commercial Courts, Commercial Division and Commercial Appellate Division of High Courts Bill, 2015, was passed into law by a voice-vote, giving Government the much needed handle to tout its ‘ease of doing business’ promise to the foreign investors. The Bill empowers the state governments to set up Commercial Courts, equal in power to district courts, after consulting with their respective high courts, except those states where the high courts are already exercising original civil jurisdiction.
